I think it would be a cool addition to have a Bounty Plugin or something.
So when you're in a fight and you lose or continuously lose. You can attract other player's attention by placing a bounty on someone and whoever kills that person would be awarded the bamboo you set.
Maybe with commands such as:
/setbounty <Insert Name Here> <Insert Amount of Bamboo Here>
/cancelbounty
/bountycheck (Lists all bounties or something)?

I'd guess that 90% of the time a friend would just kill the guy with a bounty, you'd just be giving the dominating group free bamboo.

I can see this working for RP, for example have it as instead of the person that kills you, its the person that robs you.
