So I received my Trial Moderator rank on Tuesday and I love the job. I only have one concern at the moment. I was on a short trip for the past few days and could only play in the night (11pm-3am) but almost every time I got on there would be chaotic killing going on and I would have almost no idea what to do. Since no moderator was on before me, the server just degraded into a giant massacre. I would join the server and people would be shouting kos and shooting each other randomly almost every 10 seconds. I tried to sort out the situation as best I could but its hard since I didn't know who started it. Sometimes it takes me 30+ mins to completely sort everything out. On occasion I am able to ban the original koser but most times I can't find out who it is so I have to ban several people.
So my question is, do I just ban everyone who has killed someone since I joined the server? That would be like six or seven people usually. They only kill because they got killed and nobody was there to ban the koser. One player walked up to me and said, "We need you man. As soon as you log off, everyone just kills each other." And he is so right. Most people are law abiding citizens but when no moderator is online, one person starts the killing and others feel as if they have no choice but to fight back by trying to kos the killer. I feel it is unfair to ban them for this but I also don't know if they are the ones who actually started it because everyone is telling a different story. Basically I am just asking for advice on how to deal with situations like these and what you guys think about it. Also, maybe there could be a moderator hotline so that players can contact moderators asap if problems like this arise. I have no idea how we would do that but its just a thought. Thanks.
