why are military knives illegal in RP

In real life automatic-switchblades are illegal unless you are in the military or law enforcement. Military knives are the closest thing to automatic-switchblades and not only that but it is "military," implying that it is to only be used by the military. What I don't understand is why law enforcement can't use it though since it's only illegal to citizens.

EDIT: Actually it is probably illegal to law enforcement because it is kind of hypocritical.
