I removed all cosmetics
I changed my characters names
I changed their private names

Hey man,

I thought I had removed all cosmetics too, but I hadn't. I had to go through each page of my items list and check if I had the item equipped. I found 3 items I still had equipped. Right after unequipping them, I was able to join. I was about to give up on this issue too, but it does seem like what you have to do is to unequip all your items and make sure of it.

Also ensure you remove all your cosmetics from ALL your characters (if you have the gold version of unturned).
