Having been mayor once, this is complete bullocks.
I'd wake up every morning with an extra 15k in the town balance.
I was at a point of giving away money to any cop that was online, because there was literally not enough to spend it on.
Besides, would you really expect criminals to pay taxes?
Heck, the aforementioned Hell's Fury is (usually) illegal, so shouldn't be taxed, like berries?

And taxing police for their gear? It's already a long-shot for them to have to have to get their own equipment if they aren't throwing money towards pay-to-win, or want something better than a Kopis.

And further to this...
Businesses don't get taxed when they buy merchandise. Taxes are taken when the business sells to an end-user.

So the best you can argue is to require every weaponsmith and mechanic to hire an accountant...

Great Idea! but as brylyth said, criminals wouldn't pay taxes,
plus, this just seems like a sure way to guarantee multiple economy crashes (if they could even get up from the last one) from mayors going to power hungry (trying to regulate certain items criminals are known for using) and disrupting the balance that exists, not to mention the potential exploiting you can do with this (as said above).
P.S: If those who couldn't understand the sarcasm of my first sentence, shame on you. If it wasn't obvious enough, this is a completely terrible idea lmao
I'm not talking about income taxes. This is a sales tax. A tax that is added onto the price, and that tax payed goes to the mayor's balance. It's basically a GST. You mentioned not letting mayor's change this, so I think it should be under the admin's approval that they can do that. The main idea behind the suggestion is to make the bank robbery suggestion one that is viable, and to make the mayor a more interesting role. Since there would be more money, mayors shouldn't be able to take money out of the town balance without the admin's approval either. If you like bank robberies and want that added, there has to be a surefire way that there will be money in the bank. And the criminals are basically getting a tax return when they rob the bank.

Yes, bank robberies...

The things that create a lasting KOS zone in the only vault area on the map, will lead to players logging into KOS zones at unprecedented rates, and are essentially just a way to give the bloodthirsty roles more to kill while pulling it out of the pockets of the builders, mechanics, and the like who just want to run a shop.

Again, in real life sales taxes are NOT applied to stores purchasing goods that they intend to re-sell.
They would also not be applied when police buy from merchants for gear.
They wouldn't be applied on any illegal items.
And, just in all that, you now have one of the most complicated shitstorms for the staff to work out.
They'd have to completely re-work the /economy plugin, and do an ungodly amount of maintenance as illegal items change.
