Giving any one with a donator role the lawyer or judge rank is like giving children guns. The roles are needed to be applied for as they are super important in deciding if a person should be in jail or not, there is no easy way to say if the role will gain popularity if its a open role, but as of now, the role is thriving and is working as intended, the last thing we want is corrupt lawyers.

So you’re implying Judge will also be dead and it must also be a selectable role without any feedback from the community on whether the player is fit for the role? This topic is about Lawyers, not Judges, I get it. However what’s the point in making Lawyers easily selectable if according to your logic, the Judge role will be dead since it’s an applied role? Who would these lawyers defend their clients to other than a Judge?

We can certainly tweak some aspects of these new roles, but we can’t have the best of both worlds. Letting any member decide to pick Judge and proceed to make irresponsible court decisions seems like a recipe for drama and unnecessary mod sits.

I think judges still need to be applied for because they are the ones who decide sentences but making the lawyer role available to the public will be fine as the judge is the one who makes the decision in the case. Lawyers are simply there just to support their client.

I agree, Lawyers should be a none apply rank.
Right now judges had died because of none lawyers.

So basically a lawyer would serve to argue/negotiate with the higher-ranked Police Officers in order to free their clients until a Judge is online, etc?

A lawyer is only truly useful in court, and if the Judge role is dead due to being apply-only, then there wouldn't be much of a purpose for lawyers, as there are no rules regarding the interaction between Lawyers and Police/RCMP when a Judge is not online.

We will leave this topic open for more feedback and get back to you guys with a final decision on the matter. In case we do make lawyers a no-apply role, we will need to change some of the rules pertaining their career progression. If you have any ideas or suggestions as to how it should be changed, please feel free to post them here.

The lawyer is not actually the person who decides the jail sentence or not. They're merely the person getting paid to do whatever is in their power to convince the judge and jury to lower, or even remove, your jail sentence. Berrie did not word it very well. If you have to apply for a role after you already applied for a lower role, the lower role is going to lose popularity. People are going to be more willing to become lawyers instead of ranking up to deputy. I completely agree on the fact that we change it back to how it was in the old days, where mvp's and above could be a lawyer. As an addition, instead of applying from deputy for lawyer, (this is up to the pandahut admin team) either you have to have a certain amount of time as a lawyer in order to apply for Judge, or you have to be a Chief to apply for judge (suggested).

Another option is to make the Judge role fork off Deputy, though it would be harder for players to become a Judge. It would simply look more neat on paper.

Back to my point, making anyone have lawyer would lead to corruption and bad lawyers, if you hired a lawyer only to find out he’s untrained wouldn’t you be mad?
